CATS is equipped with a modern Air Traffic
Control radar system which can present aircraft's call signs, alphanumeric
information of aircraft positions, altitudes, and ground speed. The system also
displays airways, digital video maps of restricted and danger areas as well as
other relevant data necessary for the control of air traffic.
At present, CATS has its radar equipment installed at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap international
airports and provides radar coverage over the entire airspace of Cambodia.
Moreover, the pilot-to-controller air/ground communication on VHF is provided
by radio transmitters/receivers installed within the CATS's compound in Phnom
Penh and by remote-controlled radio equipment located at 2 other stations in
Siem Reap and Strung Treng. The VHF coverage is consequently extended over the
entire Phnom Penh FIR at all altitudes and down to 5,000 feet or lower.
In addition, CATS provides air navigation-aid services at all airports in
Cambodia. The navigation-aid equipment includes NDB (Non Directional Beacon)
and VOR (Very High Frequency Omni Range), which provide the pilot with
directions to and from the airport, DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) provides the
distance to airport.
