Air Traffic Management

The air traffic management (ATM) provided at CATS encompasses all systems that assist aircraft to depart from an aerodrome, transit airspace, and land at a destination aerodrome, including air traffic services (ATS), airspace management (ASM), and air traffic flow management (ATFM).

AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES

CATS delivers air traffic services in accordance with national and international standards, ensuring safety and orderliness in Cambodian airspace. Services include aerodrome control at international and domestic airports, approach control within 30 nautical miles of international airports, and area control throughout Cambodia's airspace. The area control spans from 10,000 feet to Flight Level 460, ensuring standard separation and coordination with neighboring FIRs. Flight information and alerting services are provided in Phnom Penh FIR to enhance safe and efficient flight conduct and coordinate search and rescue efforts.

AIRSPACE MANAGEMENT BASED ON PERFORMANCE-BASED NAVIGATION

The increasing air traffic in Cambodian airspace raises concerns about congestion and safety. Airspace management aims to optimize efficiency, enhance flight handling capacity, prioritize safety, and addressing various activities. Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) is utilized to create uni-directional parallel RNAV routes, and control sectors are adjusted based on traffic conditions.

UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (DRONE) OPERATION

The escalating drone operation in Cambodian airspace raises concerns about congestion and safety. Airspace management aims to optimize efficiency, enhance flight handling capacity, prioritize safety, and addressing hazardous activities like Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), drone operations. Control sectors are adjusted based on traffic conditions, and coordination with military units accommodates flexible airspace use during operations. This ensures seamless exercises while safeguarding the safety of civil aircraft. The integration of UAV operations adds complexity, requiring careful coordination for enhanced airspace safety.

AIR TRAFFIC FLOW MANAGEMENT

Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) is a crucial service aimed at ensuring a safe, orderly, and efficient air traffic flow. CATS facilitates this through the ATM Portal, a web-based interface offering relevant information to airspace users, airport operators, and other stakeholders. The portal provides details, including Calculated Take-Off Time (CTOT) and contact information, during the implementation of ATFM measures at affected airports. This ensures optimal utilization of air traffic control capacity, aligning traffic volume with declared capacities for a more organized and efficient traffic flow.
